When I heard that the chief of staff for Michelle Obama was involved with this Jussie Smollett thing, my ears perked up. I wondered, who was behind the scenes or who had enough power to spring Jussie Smollett from years of prison. Someone did this. This event in Chicago was not arbitrary or capricious. This chicanery had a guiding hand behind the public view. There is not more of a glaring example of the fact, that there is a two-tier system in American justice. We’ve all know this for years and there does not seem to be an end to this axiom.
It is not like the government will be handing out any grants to study this social science being an explosive subject matter. But, wouldn’t it be nice for regular people to get an answer to this, or get to the bottom of why this is a perennial problem that never gets fixed? To find out what is pushing this kind of split in America, well, it would be a worthwhile study. I just think that this kind of thing pushes us all away from each other, and how can that be a good thing?
My opinion still holds despite the two-tier system we have in court for the rich and famous and for the rest of us, that this can be fixed. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 that after reviewing the case, Smollett’s volunteer service and his willingness to turn his bond over to the city, “we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case.” There has not been a more clear and shocking example that America has lost its way. We could use this example to really get to the bottom of this and push back.
We don’t have to live in a country like this. We can, in fact, take our nation back from the corrupt hands of the rich and powerful. There is more of us than there are of them. We can affect change and we can use this as the impetus to begin a new. What happened with Jussie Smollett is one of the most offensive examples of America’s broken judicial system. Ever since the economic crash of 2008, we have swum in an ocean of lawlessness. Our country, our freedom, is lost at sea.
