Losing Our Identity

I remember reciting the Pledge of Allegiance all through grade school. We placed our hands over our hearts in middle school, and even in high school; it was orated over the intercom. However, in all those instances, as we placed our hands over our hearts, we meant what we were saying. The word ‘God’ did not have any significance on its own. It was only one word contained in an entire declaration.

No big deal to those who were not of God. In this country, you don’t have to worship the God who is mentioned in the pledge. An American is free to have any god or entity he or she wishes. We are free to possess any belief we so choose.

I know very little of the great immigration boom in the USA at the turn of the 20th century. What I do know is that there was a mentality possessed by those who were seeking to become an American. Those immigrants back then learned the language, our history, and proudly became legal citizens. They worked hard to chase their American dreams. They became an American the right way and melted right into our society.

That is how we all become one. One America.  Regardless of race, creed, or religion. The great American melting pot. We did great all the way in the seventies.

Somehow, as the eighties strolled in, America became a society of not wanting to offend. Insert political correctness. One of the ingredients responsible for what we have today. We started individualizing as races and religions.  Identity politics have labeled us into classes and just the mere mention of someone’s individuality in any way perceived as offensive to that person and oh boy you did it now. So, we go around today almost scared to do anything for fear of offending people.

The things we were taught back then are not applicable today. Our kids, by the way, are growing up in this society. They have a grip on things, but will it even be the way it is now, in the future?

It is a shame in what we, as a nation, have become. In the early 1900′s, there wasn’t any other language on American products, television, and other goods and services, except English. Now, well there are multilingual instructions and notices, in many forms, just to accommodate those who are too lazy to learn the language of the country they have decided to take residence in.

When Americans afford rights to those who are not American, (illegal immigrants and terrorists) then we deserve to crumble as a nation.

Is it in our Constitution to be an adaptive society? Hell no! We weren’t supposed to stray from the core values contained within our beliefs signed in 1776. Sadly, our forefathers are turning in their graves and I weep severely for our future. Never will it be our true America anymore.
