The Fickle Fan of The Walking Dead

It is no secret to those who know me that I am a big fan of the show “.” It saddens me to hear that rumor has it, they are planning to end the show. I agree that eventually a show must come to an end but not before it hits its peak. Fans are invested in the actors, characters and the overall storyline, to end it prematurely or rush an ending would not only be disappointing but could also be writers suicide. It took years for the fans of “The Sopranos” to forgive the writers and producers for ending the show in a blackout. Imagine how the fans of will react if ended before it reaches its peak, and the show has not even come close to hitting its peak yet.

With every new season, the fan base grows, more become invested in the characters and not just the actors that play them. It is the first time in a long time since a show has such a rounded following from all ages. We all know we will see the actors in other shows and movies but the characters are dead if the show ends. As a fan, I will feel the loss of , , , Carl, Carol, Morgan, and all the rest including all the “Negans.” I want to know what happens to the seaside women, the garbage people, the kingdom, hilltop and even the sanctuary survivors once Rick and the Alexandria people kill and Lucille. is barely showing she’s pregnant and we really need to know if she carries it full term, boy or girl, does it look like Maggie or Glen? Jesus hasn’t had his insanity moment or even his character’s backstory. Season 8 does not have enough weeks to even come close to answering half the questions we have. You can’t rush perfection so why try.

Yes, it loosely follows the comic books but honestly I don’t care if it goes way off. It is holding its own and it could still go in so many more directions. “Fear The Walking” was supposed to be the prequel to the TWD so why can’t they eventually merge. With the franchise thriving with everything from bobbleheads to video games, you would think that would be enough incentive to at least hit season 10. Go to any Comic-Con and you can’t go ten steps without running into a cosplayer dressed as their favorite character or a walker. At one time I could attend a Comic-Con and find TWD comics at a reasonable price. Now you are lucky if you can find the comic books, and if you can they are no longer in the rummaging box, they are in plastic and twice the price. That is a compliment to the show and praise to the actors who brought the characters to life.

In my very humble opinion, the writers and producers need to listen to the fickle fans. They will tell you when it is time to bring the show to an end and that time is defiantly not anytime soon. Enjoy the fame because after it is over there is no going back. It is extremely rare you will ever have a TWD moment again.
