David Clarke has confirmed that he will not be taking a role with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after all.
Clarke’s assistant told on Saturday that the bombastic Milwaukee sheriff has told DHS Secretary John Kelly that he’s withdrawing himself from consideration to become an assistant secretary in the Office of Partnership and Engagement.
“Late Friday, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. formally notified Secretary of Homeland Security John F. Kelly that he had rescinded his acceptance of the agency’s offer to join DHS as an assistant secretary,” said Craig Peterson, an adviser to Clarke. “Sheriff Clarke is 100 percent committed to the success of President Trump and believes his skills could be better utilized to promote the president’s agenda in a more aggressive role.”
Clarke is a highly-vocal President Trump supporter and a regular guest on Fox News. While the DHS never confirmed any of this, Clarke said in May that he’d be by the end of this month.
Clarke faced significant pushback over his reported position, which intensified after CNN’s KFile team found out that he of his 2013 master’s thesis with the Naval Postgraduate School. Clarke’s thesis is being reviewed by the school, and Clarke has fired back by
