I had a conversation the other day about the neverending terrorist attacks and what to do about it. In truth, I have thought a lot about how we, the civilized nations, should handle this scourge. I thought about all of the failed ways we have collectively battled this and how after all of this money spent, it seems to be worse than ever. The problem is that we are dealing with this in a very civilized manner. The terrorists use our way of life and our laws against us. It is our very civilization that gives space to these terrorists to operate. I believe it is time to take the gloves off. We need to stop being civil.
I thought back to the 1983 Crime/Thriller movie called . If you have not seen that movie I recommend it. It starred Michael Douglas and the premise was that a bunch of judges secretly got together and sat around a table and had files of terrible criminals and monsters that got off on technicalities in the judicial system. The judges would decide that these killers should not be able to get away with murder and continue to walk the Earth free men. So they would select who the next target would be and they had a hitman go out and kill them. This process and gathering was called The Star Chamber.
I also thought of the 2002 Sci-Fi movie called starring Tom Cruise. If you have not seen that movie either, I also recommend it. The premise of the movie was that people got arrested before they committed the crime. The combination of these two films is the answer on how to deal with 21st-century terrorism. Why do we have to wait until a radicalized person commits terrorism before we kill them? If they publicly declare that mindset on social media and in any public form, send a hit squad to remove that trash from our world. Have a modern day Star Chamber of judges sitting around a table identifying who has been radicalized and take them out just like in Minority Report before they commit the crime. Write in laws that make this all legal and press the fact that it can only be used for this particular group of people and them only.
Anything less than this concept will never end terrorism. Civilization will die from a slow bleed and free people everywhere will have less and less freedom. Just look what they did to the experience of flying on an airplane. With my Hollywood solution here, we could go back to our lost freedoms and there would be no need to fear attending a concert or going out to a club to blow off steam. The only thing that will be blown off is the terrorists’ heads. Sound radical? Maybe. But being mowed down in the streets by cars that are now weapons of mass destruction seems pretty radical to me.
