SEATTLE — Delvonn Heckard, the man who has accused Seattle Mayor Ed Murray of sexually abusing him when he was a teenager, dropped his pending civil suit case Tuesday, court documents say.

Heckard’s lawyer Lincoln Beauregard wrote in court documents that Heckard feels it would “be wise to complete his extensive counseling and recovery this December prior to moving forward with this matter.” He added Heckard felt he would have a better chance of succeeding once Murray is no longer mayor and plans to refile.

Murray , saying the allegations would dominate the election campaign and not the important issues facing the city.

Beauregard also claims Murray has “successfully tainted the jury pool with false information about the accusers,” and a delay in the trial would “prove beneficial to the administration of justice.”

On April 6, a complaint for damages, alleging child sex abuse and illegal child prostitution, was filed in King County Superior Court against Murray. Heckard alleged that he met Murray in the 1980s at the age of 15 and the two began a sexual relationship, when Murray was more than twice his age, according to the filing.

Heckard, in the filing, accused Murray of paying him for sex.

Murray has and claims the suit was politically motivated.

KOMO News is reaching out to Murray for comment.
