You go to War with the Populist You Have – Not the Populist You Might Wish You Have. President Trump is not exactly a true believer in Populism. He gets credit for identifying the that was spreading across the globe, but it ends there. He co-opted the movement because we had no leader at all here in America, but his desire to cuts deals outweighs Populist Ideology. So that is the dilemma true Populists like myself face.
“You go to war with the Army you have — not the Army you might wish you have,” is among the insights offered in ‘s book. Well, that is kind of where Trump supporters are at. The man is going to do some things we like but mostly, he is not going to. Coming to terms with this has been a process for me and I am sure others too. We have been waiting for our tax cuts and this and that but somehow the Swamp has kept our agenda from unfolding. Yes, Sean Spicer puts the lipstick on this pig daily but it must be said, no one is buying it. Even at the Trump rally for his 100 days, the crowd kept screaming to build that wall. Trump and his team can keep ignoring that or try to feed Populist to the masses, but in the end, Populists are very engaged in politics and know better.
I think we have to remember that the other choice was the corrupt Clinton Machine and that would not have done a single thing for the common man. We must realize that the other side put up such a dishonest person, that even Trump was able to beat her with his flavor of so-called truth. I think that says more about the Democrats than it does about any of us. Populists need to get what they can out of this president and then start looking for a true believer like Jean-Marie Le Pen in France or the that gained 25.5% of the vote, with 109 deputies and 54 senators in Italy. That became the main populist and movement in the European Union. Here in the U.S. all we have for now is President Trump.
