CLEVELAND, Ohio — The three-part PBS music documentary “American Epic” concludes tonight with “Out of the Many, the One.” Narrated by Robert Redford, tonight’s episode focuses on:

  • The Hopi Indians and their ceremonial Snake Dance
  • Inventor of the steel guitar, John Kekuku, and the huge influence this instrument had on the world of American music
  • Bluesman Mississippi John Hurt, a 1920s self-taught guitarist whose music had a brisk resurgence in the 1960s
  • Mexican singer/songwriter Lydia Mendoza, whose hit song “Mal Hombre” (Cold Hearted Man) may be one of the earliest female empowerment songs in recorded music history.

And more!

“American Epic” airs May 30 at 9 p.m. ET on PBS.
