Open Letter to Hollywood and Music Artists: Watching the behavior from both of your communities over the course of this election has been quite revealing. To many of us, your shocking level of self-unawareness leaves people across the nation calling for medical attention for all of you. It seems maybe a doctor is required because you are certainly not acting yourselves.
I agree with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails when he told Spin Magazine about the music industry, “The Internet is giving voice to everybody thinking that someone gives a shit what they have to say and they have the right. I think, in general, that has created a toxic environment for artists and led to some very safe music. Artists are trying to make music to please the tastemakers that tell the sheep what to like. It’s a vicious cycle and I think it’s unhealthy. I don’t see any Princes emerging on the scene today. I see a lot of people making formulaic, made to please, vegan restaurant patron-type shit. And I think it creates an environment where people are too fuckin’ worried about what other people have to say. And people who have never made anything think it’s OK to talk shit about stuff they have no right to talk about. You got a Facebook account? Nobody gives a fuck. You haven’t achieved anything.”
As far as music artists go, well, most of your community just offended half of this nation with your refusal to be a part of our nation’s renewal of our peaceful transition of power. You people must be unaware that the music you create is free now and the only way you make money is if we come to see you live in concert. Guess who I’m not going to pay to see live anymore. Well, it is all of you spineless jellyfish that did not have the nerve to stand up for our American way of life. Guess who is my new favorite band and whom I just got re-energized about their career? Thank you 3 Doors Down; I forgot how amazing you guys are. As soon as you come through Orlando, you will see me there with my wallet. That is how it works in America.
As for Hollywood, well a good portion of the nation is used to the Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and Susan Sarandon types telling us all how we should live and think. Most of America could disconnect their art from their activism. However, now the Hollywood elite have elevated their militancy into something closer to peer pressure or celebrity bullying. They are a threat to the careers of their peers who may believe otherwise. Dissenting voices in their community are silenced. It is this Liberal McCarthyism that now has the rest of their brethren cowering in the corner. We know this because now all of Hollywood marches lockstep behind Meryl Streep like the sheeple she herds into the slaughter house for independent thinkers.
I do not think they apperceive the damage they do to their own brands. Let me give you an example. I long ago stopped supporting Hollywood and most of the music industry. I so rarely go to the movie theater and give them my money. In fact, the only time I do go to the theater and pay to support their art is when it is a political statement I am making. I have long heard the stories about the Hollywood Bias against Sylvester Stallone because he is a Republican. So, I go to the movie theater and support his movies. I do the same thing when it comes to supporting Mel Gibson as he is attacked by the word police. I deplore political correctness in all its forms. The politically correct never get in my wallet, not ever.
Meryl Streep and her condescending words about football, martial arts and what she thinks constitutes art is appalling. Now, every time I see her in something, I’ll just turn it off. She did that. Meryl caused that. I know I can’t be alone. These kinds of things last forever. To this day, if you go into some Veteran’s Organizations and you are a man that goes to the bathroom to use the urinal, there still is Jane Fonda urinal mats at the bottom of every urinal. Do you know how many millions of gallons of urine have been relieved on the face of Jane Fonda? There is an entire segment of America Meryl Streep has no understanding of. She might be earning her way into that bathroom experience. Maybe the manufacturers of the mats have already started production. One thing for sure, they better start making those mats here in America.
